Bad Hair Day - Everyday !

by Kristina
(Gun Barrel City, TX)

I look mad, because my hair looks bad !

I look mad, because my hair looks bad !

I do not remember the last time I was not wearing a baseball cap.
Oh, yes I do, it was Sunday. After 4 hours of straightening and blow drying. I went to do a Christmas picture. The photographer asked if I wanted to go home and do my hair.
Really? That is just how it is. I have very thick and dry hair. If I have it blown by a stylist, it looks ok for a day or so. It has just enough curl in it to become VERY frizzy when I get outside. I am at my wits end. I am seriously thinking of cutting it all off just to get rid of the hat.
I have already taken over 6 inches of it off and had the back layered into shorter layers and the front from ears forward is all one length.
Any suggestions? I am open!
Answer
Hello Kristina,
If you spent 4 hours straightening your hair then it is no wonder your hair is dry and frizzy on the ends. You hair needs moisture - especially at the ends . Purchase the best quality shampoo and conditioner you can for dry hair. If it is good quality you won’t need a lot, – use mostly on the ends but do comb through with a wide tooth comb before you rinse it out. (never detangle after towel drying with a brush – comb only). (newsletter article “your choice of shampoo can make or break your style”)
Change your styling habits as well – “your hair is screaming out in pain” from the heat of the irons – so shampoo and condition – towel dry, and blast to about 80-90% dry with your dryer – then take a very large round brush (one that does not scratch you on the palm of your hand) and blow dry using the large brush. Then run over quickly with the irons if you want. (finish with some wax to the mid-lengths and ends to weight it down. (see how to apply hair styling wax)
When you have your next color have your stylist tidy the length at the base of your hair and give you some more feathered layers through the lengths (long layers not short) this will soften the ends help them blend and control the thickness. A side part and feathered side fringe will also soften your look. Ask your stylist to recommend products for you.
As for cutting your hair short – then go for something soft and cute - short with lots of feathered layers, in a playful messy shape- that you can wash, blast dry and finish with wax. Your face shape is great - remember though short hair requires regular visits to the stylist to keep it looking great at least every 6 weeks.

Good luck
