Big Mistake from Maine

by Victoria
(Maine )

Hello,
I am a sixteen year old from Maine. A not so best friend recently pressured me into dying my hair. My normal hair color is a medium brown, with some red highlights. So we decided to get 'semi-permanent' hair dye, or so we thought. My hair is black now. This dye job took place in February and my roots are beginning to grow back. I absolutely hate my hair now. Of course, this dye was not as semi-permanent as advertised. The color has faded, but not enough. I had decided to grow my hair out and never dye my hair again, but my roots look terrible. My prom is in two weeks, and I want to be able to look at photos without cringing. Please help me. I am not willing to dye my hair again, because the roots problem will remain right.
I just really want my natural hair color back, hence the growing it out. My hair is so pretty in its natural state, dying it (all other dramas aside) has been the worst mistake of my life thus far. This was the first, and last time that I will dye my hair. I hope you can help me, my situation seems to be a bad one. Whatever advice you can give I will willingly take.
With thoughts of Hope,
Big Mistake from Maine.

Answer
Hi there,
Yours is a common mistake - remember in hair color - if you need to mix two bottles together it is usually permanent.
You have a couple of options all include some sort of color.
1. Place some dark foils in your new growth of lighter hair to blend the line and then allow it to grow out completely.
2. Place some foils through the darker colored hair to lighten and blend more with your natural color.
These two are your best options unless you want to go into more color processes.
Have either of the two options done with a professional stylist – please.
Good luck.
PS let us know how it all went.
Any stylists out there with any other advice??
