This method of how to style short hair is best for everyday. Shampoo and condition hair and blast dry upside-down to just damp 80-90% dry. Apply a blow dry spray or a light mousse, rub and massage down to scalp. It is a waste of time and energy to blow dry really wet hair - so just damp please - it is much easier to manage with a brush or your hands when just damp. Comb all hair into the direction that each area will sit when it is dry. Starting at the base of the neck and assuming that your hair is quite short here - hold the drier up high at an angle so that the air is blowing down. Use the nozzle attachment. Use the air to flatten the hair at the base of the neck - do the same around the ears. How to style short hair to sit flat:- is to use the force of the air at the front of the ears to dry flat and forward towards your face - or to whatever direction that the style requires. Dry the top of your head by blasting air (lower speed) from a side angle, and rubbing all over the top with the tips of your fingers. Think about the direction of the air - make
sure that the
air direction is not going to flatten your hair on top.The top is where you want to have some lift and movement. Fine or very straight hair may need to be lifted with a spider or vent brush. Finish by rubbing the scalp with the fingertips and air blowing. Do this often whilst styling - it will even out and blend any bumps and gaps in the areas lifted. Last is the very front sides and front top hairline area. (The front hairline plus around 8-10 cm straight back.) Fashions at the moment have the hair sitting quite flat at the front so dry as your did with the top, rubbing with your fingers. As you dry use your fingers as comb to place and straighten the ends (this is even better if you have long nails). When dry a last minute rub and blast all over for lift. If you comb or brush your hair now - you will lose the effect. ![]() How to style short hair with wax Insert your index fingernail lightly into the wax, and then lightly push your finger forward until it has rolled into a small pea sized ball that is sitting on top of your fingernail. This allows you to know exactly how much you are using and it is not wasted under and around your fingernails. Apply wax -***IMPORTANT Take a small amount of wax slightly more than a pea, rub it evenly all over the palm of your hands and fingers right to the tips. Apply by rubbing down to the scalp all over the top and sides with your fingertips. Stop and again rub the remaining wax that is left on your palms down to your fingertips and repeat. NEVER USE THE PALM OF YOUR HAND TO APPLY WAX TO THE TOP AND SIDES OF YOUR HAIR this will make those areas appear wet and sit flat. Now use the last of the wax on your palm to flatten the back hairline area,(use your flat palm here). Use the last of the wax on your fingertips to fix the front hairline. Use your fingers as a comb, lifting out the top by - placing your straightened fingers into your hair, lifting your fingers up and over, holding the hair lightly between your fingers to place the pieces and smooth the ends. Fine soft ends can be pinched and twisted with your fingers to coat the ends and control how they sit. (Especially effective around the hairline.)
You will be able to pick up your shape
through the day ( so don't use hairspray).Rub lightly on the roots and place the hair as you did when you applied the wax - don't use anymore wax. Use only the amount of wax I have suggested and no more - most people use far too much wax and not enough time and effort applying it - then are usually unhappy with the results. Choose a wax that feels "tacky" on the fingers - not sticky and certainly not creamy. I prefer a water soluble wax as it will not build up and will shampoo out easily. .See our gallery of short hair pictures Return From How to style Short Hair - home page |
