I want a new style for my hair....Help!

by H
(UK)

I want a new style for my hair, one that is easy, slims my face and neck but that is right on trend in the UK....Help!
I am getting my hair styled next week but have no idea what to get done! I am early in my 20s with a roundish face, so I want a style which is quickish and simple to do but looks effective for during the day and on a night out!
I love being funky, having layers is a must - but have no idea what to do with my shoulder length hair...thinking of a bob?! Also I have a huge and long side fringe and do not want a full fringe back so what else can I do?! Help me:D
Answer
Hi D
Well if you wanted to challenge me you have succeeded. I cannot see your face, features, hairline, or your style of clothing etc. – so I am really in the dark.
A quick and simple style will always come out as a short or shortish style. From what you have told me I suggest you go for texture with lots of chipping throughout, and depending on your color at the moment put in some slices of a contrasting color or two to add and aid the texture effect.
As for your “huge and long side fringe”, - leave it quite longish (compared to the back) to contrast the shorter hair, but chip out the weight and blend and balance it with the back.
During the day you can tuck it behind your ear (for a shorter look) and at night you can wear it down and still have the feeling of length, with lots of layers that can be dried messy and “funky”.
Make sure you use a good finishing wax to place the shorter hair, and the front longer layers – to complement the texture.
Visit our layered bob page. There is a great picture and info there you should read.
As for a bob – it is always my favorite as it is so versatile – what I have suggested is a variation of the bob.

Comments on this from other hairdressers would be great – interesting to see what you come up with.

Good luck
