Very very oily hair

My teenage daughter's hair is very very oily. She often washes it twice a day. What can she do to control the oil? She is using soo much shampoo and conditioner - surely washing so much would be bad for her hair?
Answer Hi Veronika, Oil glands producing excess oil in adolescence is very common. It is caused by hormonal activity. Unfortunately though, the more stimulation (washing and brushing)the oil glands get - the more oil they will produce - so if this problem is not dealt with now your daughter could have this problem through adulthood as well.
My suggestions are Use the best quality products you can afford. Use a shampoo and conditioner for oily hair or a volumising or fine hair shampoo and conditioner will work well too. Dry shampoos are readily available in stores and are becoming extremely popular. use as per instructions. Use it often to replace shampooing.
When your daughter shampoo's her hair she should massage only lightly - the shampoo will absorb the oil. Massaging and very hot water will produce more oil so shampoo in warm water only.
Try to discourage your daughter from washing so frequently, and tie her hair back - there are some great head bands available now - braids and bands are the big thing this season - just take a look at the celebrities.
This will take a few months but you will see results if your persevere.
good luck Sandra
