Deciding on a hairdresser and make-up artist Speak to other brides about their hairdressers and make-up artist.

View their portfolios' on the net - confirm it is their own work.

Speak to them and find one that is interested in you, your hair and your desired results on the day.

Don't make the mistake of choosing a hairdresser and or make-up artist on price alone - one persons ability is not the same as another. You will get what you for.

My advice is to find a qualified hairdresser (some make-up artists do a short study on hair up-styling for photographic work) their work may look good, you want someone with knowledge of what makes hair hold all day. Besides I believe they are the best one to use for your hair colour and cuts leading up to the wedding.

Having one person doing both the wedding hairstyles and make-up for your wedding party will take twice as long as if you have one for each.

Choosing wedding hair styles

Style choice is best made in consultation with your hairdresser. You need to consider if the wedding is day or night, casual or formal, and theme if any.

Up-style : Stylish, glamorous, formal and very practical, this style should hold all day and night for you.

Half - up : Girlie-glamour with some softness, romance and playfulness thrown in. Practical for photographs as it is controlled from the wind. Lengths may be droopy by the end of the day.

All down : Modern, youthfull, relaxed and romantic, not practical for outside weddings. More chance of drooping after time. Also makes a little more work to attach the veil.

Overall I suggest you look to a style that is practical for you needs and for how you personally feel regarding your look for the day - you hairdresser will help you design wedding hairstyles that will suit you facial shape and your dress.

Going to the salon or having the specalists visit you

Whichever option you choose will make no difference whatsoever to the quality of the outcome.

Some brides already have a hairdresser they have been using for some time and want to continue with someone that they know. Others enjoy the opportunity for a little indulgence of the hair and make-up artists visiting them - for an easy relaxed preparation time.

On a practical note the salon would be a faster exercise as the whole party would be serviced by many hairdressers and make-up artists and be finished in a relatively short time. A home or hotel visit means usually one hairdresser and one make-up artist so the preparation time would be lengthier, and you may have to get out of bed earlier.

Then again who really sleeps in on their wedding day?

The practise

I use the word "practise" not "trial" as we are not trying out wedding hairstyles. It is a practise run to establish the time to achieve the required results and to confirm that it is practical and the bride is happy with the style.

It is the responsibility of the hairdresser to find out all the necessary information from you to assist you both in coming up with the best possible style and results.

I suggest you collect pictures of wedding hairstyles those you do like and those you do not - as this is a good form of discussion with your hairdresser, she needs to know what you like but most definitely what you do not, so she can assist you to tailor make a style distinctly for you.

If your hairdresser is not interested in going in-depth in discussion with you regarding your needs for your Wedding hairstyles then you have the wrong one.

For both the hairdresser and make-up artist - take note of her equipment is it clean and neat- if so her work will reflect that, is she punctual you can not afford a specialist starting late on your day.
